What does self-quarantine mean and how do you do it?

Self-quarantine refers to people staying home or at another location by choice. However, only people who have not been diagnosed with an illness can self-quarantine. Quarantine can be seen with people who have been in contact with someone diagnosed particular illness. For example, many people are self-quarantining as a result of the current COVID-19 outbreak.

If you decide to self-quarantine, you cannot be diagnosed with a sickness. Instead, self-quarantine if you believe that you have traveled to a sickness-plagued area, or if you exhibit symptoms. Clean often and thoroughly, and do not touch or come in close contact with friends or family. Wear a mask if contact cannot be avoided, and always cover your mouth and nose when coughing/sneezing. Dispose of the tissue, if used, as soon as possible. For the COVID-19 virus, quarantine is encouraged for two weeks, which is approximately the incubation period.

Other Questions

Government payment is not an option when self-quarantined. It will be very difficult, both physically and emotionally. You should not leave your immediate area for at least two weeks (for COVID-19). Make sure to speak to your manager or employer if you are quarantining yourself. Remember that not all jobs offer at-home options, so contact your employer to find out if working from home is an option. Make sure someone can pick up groceries and medication, and that you can contact emergency services if symptoms worsen.
